Unable to view or edit Database Diagrams in Enterprise ManagerI am no longer able to view or edit existing database diagrams from
Enterprise Manager. I can create new diagrams and save them and can later edit them fine. I have a few older diagrams that were created some time ago and I now need to add a table to them. When I open the diagram, the screen is completely blank and no tool buttons work. I would much rather not have to re-create the diagrams. Can anyone help? Did you apply Visual Studio Service Pack 6?
If so, this has happened to many people. I don't know if there is a knowledge base article or supported fix for the issue. Others have reported working around the issue by installing an older version of mdt2df.dll -Sue On Fri, 21 Jan 2005 09:57:05 -0800, "David Williams" <DavidWilli***@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: Show quote >I am no longer able to view or edit existing database diagrams from >Enterprise Manager. the SQL Server Enterprise Manager and I have applied SP3a there as well. Where can I get the older version of that file to test? very, very, very, very, likely still related to the issue with VS SP 6. Even though you may not think that's where the problem is, many others have hit the same issue. Apply VS SP 6 and you hit issues in Enterprise Manager when viewing diagrams. The two clients use some of the same code from DaVinci tools or whatever they are called internally. An older version of mdt2df.dll would be on a PC that didn't have SP 6 applied. -Sue On Mon, 24 Jan 2005 14:01:05 -0800, "David Williams" <DavidWilli***@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: Show quote >I do have VS SP6 but that is not where the problem is. Most people who have done the workaround seem to have used the version they had on their PC prior to applying SP 6. -Sue On Mon, 24 Jan 2005 14:01:05 -0800, "David Williams" <DavidWilli***@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: Show quote >I do have VS SP6 but that is not where the problem is. still SP 5 (someone who doesn't use the product often). The version of the file I had was 2.0.0.9586 and the file I replaced it with is 2.0.0.8958. I also found out that the diagram editor in Visual Interdev worked just fine (with the original file). would add that I had uninstalled Visual Studio .Net and reinstalled it, including SP6, prior to discovering the problem in Enterprise Mgr, and the uninstall apparently deleted the entire C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSDesigners98 directory in which the .dll resided; with the result that the Diagrams items in Enterprise manager did not work at all. Thanks. We are having the same issues, across multiple machines, Win2k and XP, as well as on the Windows 2003 Servers themselves.....
