Where are x86 tools on x64 disks? We have the x64 edition of sql 2005 standard, and I would like to install
the management studio on my x86 workstation. Can this be done without having to purchase the x86 server? Which would be totally a waste, but possibly part of Microsoft's GOTCHA plan. Thanks, Craig Craig,
If the x86 tools are on the x64 disks, the would probably be stored under ....\Program Files (x86). There are a number of SQL tools installed on my servers under that folder, but not the full desktop tools. Microsoft says: http://www.microsoft.com/sql/howtobuy/default.mspx ....For example, if you currently have a 32-bit server and plan to upgrade the hardware to 64 bit in the future, you can purchase a 32-bit SKU today, and later switch to 64 bit without having to purchase an additional license. So, if you do not have the 32-bit Management Studio, etc., I think you should be able to contact Microsoft about getting the 32-bit SKU as well, without any other license issues. I suggest contacting Microsoft through one of the methods mentioned here: http://www.microsoft.com/products/info/render.aspx?view=22&type=mnp&content=22/custsrv Hope that helps, RLF Show quote "Craig" <cmog***@jouleinc.com> wrote in message news:es7KECLFIHA.4228@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > We have the x64 edition of sql 2005 standard, and I would like to install > the management studio on my x86 workstation. > > Can this be done without having to purchase the x86 server?
