I am looking to setup database mail in SQL2k5.  A requirement is that we
receive confirmation messages when the email is sent via smtp.  How do I
configure this?

You need to setup a profile within database Mail that connects to an SMTP
server. The MSTP server has to be configured to allow relaying from the
database server using the Database server IP.
