Hi all...

I'm wondering if anyone might be able to point me here... i couldnt find
anything on google, and hope someone else has come across this...
I am trying to find a tool which will allow me to compare two databases to
roll out updates/changes, and which is "portable" such that i can run it off
of my U3 flashdisk.

Thanks in advance,
- Arthur Dent.

I don't know of any such tool.  However, with synchronisation tools like
those available at Red Gate (www.red-gate.com), you can take snapshots of
your database for later comparaison and generation of synchronisation SQL
scripts.  This require a little organisation from your part but when you are
dealing with clients, beeing organised shouldn't be a problem.

You can also find some tools that will help you completely organizing your
SQL work and will generate all the necessary scripts from version to
version; however, these tools will cost you much more than simpler
synchronisation tools.

Yah, i use Red-gate, and it is a very good product. I was mainly looking for
a better way to deal with test and prod environments on some clients (such
as a government lab) where data is never allowed off-premesis, and vendor
laptops are never allowed to connect to their network... something short of
having to go out and by additional licenses for Red-gate for every on-site
client.

If vendor laptops are never allowed to connect to their network, would you
think that they would tolerate USB drives with programs on them?  If they
can tolerate this, then  you could use their SQL-Toolkit to design your own
NET program.

Second, I don't understand why you can't use snapshot for creating your
synchronisation sql scripts.

You might want to try AlfaAlfa's SQL Server Comparison Tool (SCT)

http://www.sql-server-tool.com

- I'm not sure about flashdisk though.
