What is the <default> Network Protocol in Connection Propeties? When I try to connect to a Database Engine in SSMS, there is an entry for
Network Protocol in the Connection Properties tab. It has the value <default>. 1. Which Network Protocol will be used when the value is <default>? 2. Can I control which Network Protocol wil be used when the value is <default> and how? (note: this means I leave the value as <default>.) Will the answers for these 2 questions be different for a Named Instance and Default Instance? for a local instance and remote instance? In SQL Server Configuration Manager, expand SQL Native Client Configuration, right-click Client Protocols, and then click Properties. 2. In the Enabled Protocols box, click the up and down arrows to change the order in which protocols are tried, when attempting to connect to SQL Server. The top protocol in the Enabled Protocols box is the default protocol. Hi Steve,
What if all protocols under SQL Native Clients are disabled?
