Migrating from 2000 to 2005 with Copy Database Wizard

I am assisting in the migration of databases from an SQL Server 2000 cluster
to an SQL Server2005 cluster, using the Copy Database Wizard. It has been
nothing but trouble with one thing or another, but it's now finally to the
point where it fails with the message Ad hoc updates to system tables not
allowed. I looked this message up on the web, and apparently updating system
tables is not allowed any more in SQL2005. So why is MS's wizard trying to
do something that's not allowed? Is there a way around this?
