Cannot filter members in Management Studio Browsing a CubeWhen I want to filter members of a Dimension in Analysis Services in Management Studio, whith the Property UniqueName and the operator Contains, I ceceive the following error message: Query(1, 83) The '[INSTR]' function does not exist with no member shown. One part of the detailed error message says:"cannot add or insert the item 'Filter Members...' in more than one place". Thank you for using MSDN newsgroup! I understand that you cannot filter members of demesion with UniqueName and the operator Contains. This problem appears after you installed 918222. If I'm off-base, please let me know. To know the issue better, please let me know the following information: 1. How did you filter members of the dimension? Please let me know the detailed steps so that I may reproduce the issue on my side. 2. Does the issue occur with all the demensions in the database? Does the issue occur with sample adventureworks database? To make sure the issue if the issue is caused by 918222, you may want to tempoarily uninstall it via Add/Remove Programs to test the situation. Hi Peter
I think a good way to start is to deinstall and reinstall the cumulative Hotfix - if that is easily possible my problem is however I do not know how to deinstall the hotfix- sorry for that silly question but when I go to add or remove programs - I do not see a special entry - nor when I use the change button of SQL Server 2005 (64bit). Charles Wang proposed to use the Windows Installer Clean Up. (compare thread http://msdn.microsoft.com/newsgroups/managed/default.aspx?&guid=&sloc=en-us&dg=microsoft.public.sqlserver.tools&p=1&tid=65dddddf-5990-4830-acb2-1ab83a5be4ee&mid=65dddddf-5990-4830-acb2-1ab83a5be4ee). But this probably only removes setup files. So perhaps this issue occured after deinstalling the client tools and installing them again and only applying the cumulative hotfix after this installation to the client tools? Thanks for your help, Regards, Marc Any ideas? Hello Marc,
Thank you for your reply. From the link http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=918222 you could see: To uninstall this hotfix, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove programs. 2. In the Add or Remove Programs window, click the Add or Remove Programs icon. 3. To see the rollup that is listed under your Microsoft SQL Server 2005 installation, select the Show Updates check box. 4. You must uninstall the component packages in the order in which they are listed in this article. If this does not apply to your machine, please let me know if the issue occurs when other client machine uses managment studio to the server? If so, it seems to be the issue related to client tool. you may want to remove client tool via Add/Remove Programs, they try to remove the related registry key by Windows installer cleanup, reinstall the client tool, apply SP1, and test if the issue occurs at this time. If the issue does not occur, please try to install the client tool patch of 918222. ( I assume you have installed other patch of 918222 already in the proper sequence before you noticed this problem) If not, it shall be related to Analysis services component, please let me know the following information for before we go further: 1. How did you filter members of the dimension? Please let me know the detailed steps so that I may reproduce the issue on my side. 2. Does the issue occur with all the demensions in the database? Does the issue occur with sample adventureworks database? If you have other relatred information, please feel free to let's know. Have a great day! thanks for your advice. I tried to uninstall the fix but without success - so I assumed my installation is corrupted. I decided to reinstall sqlserver with sp1 and the cumulative hotfix. This worked and this issue does not show up anymore. But don't ask me what really happend... ;-) Most important it works! Thanks anyway and Best Regards, Marc Hello Marc,
Great to hear you'v resolved the issue. It appearsthat install sequence of components is the cause of the issue and a complete reinstall addressed the problem. Your experience on this will benefit the community. Thanks!
