Backup SQL 2K using Volume Shadow Services on Win2K3?

Can VSS be used with SQL 2K SP4?

Does this just automatically work in a maintenance plan, or, do you have to
use the Windows Backup tool?

I COULD backup this DB using a third-party product, CommVault, but...am
trying to save the license cost, as it's not a particularly valuable or
important database.
