upgrade advisor not working

When I attempt to launch the upgrade advisor analysis wizard and choose a
server to analyze, I get the message:

Upgrade Advisor could not detect SQL server components on the server.

Additional information:  Requested registry access is not allowed.(mscorlib)

Why could this be occurring?

Does this mean I need windows administrator access to all the sql server
machines, or what?  The requirements for upgrade advisor do not list any
account permissions info - only software.  I'm being asked to analyze a
number of sql servers, but I only have the 'sa' sql login and getting windows
admin access may not be very easy to do in some cases.

If you enter the server name, check the options and on the next screen
enter MSSQLSERVER for the instance name and uuse sql server
authentication and go to next screen, you will see your databases.

Good luck...
