Use of SQL Server 2005 Mgmt Studio on a SQL Server 2000??In this message
http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.sqlserver.server/browse_thread/thread/468a2f4e8def5223/3a2cf1d48804b38e?lnk=st&q=sql+server+2005+management+studio++connect+manage+2000&rnum=3#3a2cf1d48804b38e a Mr. Cheng states, "We cannot use SQL Server Management Stuido to connect SQL Server 2000 instance." I am, however, able to connect to SQL Server 2000 with SQL Server Management Studio. My question: Is it unwise, in any way, to connect to SQL Server 2000 with SQL Server Management Studio and view or manipulate the databases in the instance of 2000? Thanks, Jim Jim Moon (please.reply@group) writes:

Are you aware of any official (or unofficial) Microsoft documentation of the use of Management Studio with 2000, or bug list? So, you're saying that it is completely fine to view and manipulate 2000 from Mgmt. Studio? I represent a small group of developers in a federally funded research group at a university. I need to tell our boss and my group either that it is *completely okay* to use Mgmt. Studio with 2000, or that it is *not okay*for some reason(s). Thank you in advance for any more feedback. Jim Management Studio was designed to work with SQL 2000. There are some
differences between what works on SQL 2000 and what works on SQL 2005 because the management interface are different. Some people have chosen to retain both EM and MS because there are a few EM functions that don't exist in Management Studio (and no, I don't have a list). -- Show quoteThis posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. No complete bug list, but on http://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/productfeedback/you can searchs for bugs submitted by the community.
