Turn off server state in Management StudioHi,
Does anyone know how I can prevent Management Studio from connecting to all my "Registered Servers" to populate the server state (running or stopped). In Enterprise Manager it was possible to uncheck the "Display SQL Server state in console" under Properties for each server but I can't find the corresponding option in Management Studio. Regards, Allan Hello,
I didn't find the option in the management studio, I will do more research on it and let you know the update. Hi Sophie!
Any news on this subject? It would really be helpful if there was a way to disable this since I have a lot of servers registered (100+) and it causes me and my colleagues some trouble when Management Studio tries to connect to all these servers. Based on my further test, to disconnect from a registered server, you can perform the following steps: In Object Explorer, right-click a server and click Disconnect or, on the Object Explorer toolbar, click the Disconnect icon. http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms179570(en-US,SQL.90).aspx I test the issue on my side by performing the following steps: 1. Register a SQL server instance from a client machine. 2. On the SQL server installed machine, right-click the Activity Monitor > Click "View Processes". Find a process ID which the client machine used to connect to SQL server. 3. Disconnect the connection from the client machine. Restart the SQL management studio on the client machine. 4. Notice that SQL server instance is registered on the client machine. But it is disconnected. 5. On the SQL server installed machine, refresh the connected processes. The process which the client machine used to connect to SQL server doesn't appear. I hope the information is helpful. Hi Sophie,
I think that you have misunderstood my question. I wasn't talking about the Object Explorer but about the Registered Servers and I know it doesn't connect to SQL Server but it does connect to Windows to check if the SQL Server service is started or not and that is what I want to prevent. In SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Manager it was possible to uncheck the "Display SQL Server state in console" under Properties for each server to prevent it from connecting to the server to check if the service is started. Is it possible to do the exact same thing in Management Studio? -Allan Show quote "Sophie Guo [MSFT]" wrote: > Hello Allan, > > Based on my further test, to disconnect from a registered server, you can > perform the following steps: > > In Object Explorer, right-click a server and click Disconnect or, on the > Object Explorer toolbar, click the Disconnect icon. > > http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms179570(en-US,SQL.90).aspx > > I test the issue on my side by performing the following steps: > > 1. I have searched it for a long time. But I didn't find a similar option as the option "Display SQL Server state in console" in SQL 2000. It appears that this option is not available in SQL server 2005.
