SQL Server Management Studio locks up on long queries

In any query that has to run for more than several seconds (at least on a SQL
Server 2000 database), the RTM Management Studio appears to be locking up. I
did some Google and newsgroups searching, but couldn't find any solution to
the problem. Any suggestions on how to resolve this?
