Microsoft Outlook 2000 Lost My E-mails in all foldersHi,
For some reason Outlook lost my e-mails in all folders and brought in items that I had deleted awhile ago. It took away emails from October 23rd through November 4th and brought in old deleted emails. Is there any place that I can find these emails? I do not auto archive anything - I disabled it. I am not a computer whiz, but can usually follow directions. Any assistance would be appreciated. -- Live life to the fullest and never look back Even if you turned off auto-archiving maybe you or someone else archived
things. Look for PST files on your machine. If you find any open them with the File menu > Open > Personal Folders (or Outlook Data File) command and check what's in them Show quoteHide quote "judibugg" <judib***@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:5F64F035-B4A4-49D7-83B8-78DA1BD18125@microsoft.com... > Hi, > For some reason Outlook lost my e-mails in all folders and brought in > items > that I had deleted awhile ago. Thank you for your response. I will go and try this using the search on my start menu. I will see what I find. -- Show quoteHide quoteLive life to the fullest and never look back "Vince Averello [MVP-Outlook]" wrote: > Even if you turned off auto-archiving maybe you or someone else archived > things. I tried what you told me to do and everything I got was only the same email I already had in the folders. It did not bring back anything that had been lost. I have brought back a pst folder from another account. Now I have all these folders with nothing in them that I need and it will not let me delete them. Where do I go from here? I printed out some sheets for the knowledge base Article 245711 - Outlook Information Unexpectedly missing Article 253503 - E-mail messages disappear from your Inbox in Outlook 2000 Article 197315 - How to use the Inbox Repair Tool to recover messages in Outlook 2000 that is installed with Internet Mail only option (I chose this one over the one for Corporate and Workgroup option. I have not tried any of them yet - will wait to hear from you or someone in the group. Thank you for your assistance. -- Show quoteHide quoteLive life to the fullest and never look back "Vince Averello [MVP-Outlook]" wrote: > Even if you turned off auto-archiving maybe you or someone else archived > things. Close. So, none of the other PSTs contained the missing messages? Hmmm, did anything odd happen on your machine recently? Other than the missing messages, of course. This happened right after I was in the Road Runner Medic updating and protecting my settings - I have done this before and never had a problem - but the medic shut down on me and I had to reboot my computer. I found a bunch of pst files but can not open them and cannot do anything with them - I even tried to import them. They are in a file c:program files/support.com/backup/ No clue what it is - that is why I was reading the other items. Again thank you. Any ideas - should I try any of those articles? -- Show quoteHide quoteLive life to the fullest and never look back "Vince Averello [MVP-Outlook]" wrote: > You can right click on a the root of the opened Personal Folders & choose > Close. > > So, none of the other PSTs contained the missing messages? Should I go ahead and try some of the ideas in those articles - have you seen them at all? -- Show quoteHide quoteLive life to the fullest and never look back "Vince Averello [MVP-Outlook]" wrote: > Yeah, you might as well check out the articles. > > I wonder what the medic was doing when it died? > > "judibugg" <judib***@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:177FFD17-D5B7-48C0-A160-72D226938AFA@microsoft.com... > > Hi Vic > > This happened right after I was in the Road Runner Medic updating and > > protecting my settings - I have done this before and never had a problem - > > but the medic shut down on me and I had to reboot my computer. Yesterday I oncentrated on finding that email. I ran the Inbox Repair Tool to remover messages. And it worked. I got a good portion of them back, but most important of all, I got the ones I really needed. If anyone else ever has this problem I used Article # 197315. It walks you through it step by step. The one thing is that you need to know the path you want to take to get to the file that you believe they are in. i.e. c:documents settings/name/local settings/application data/microsoft/outlook. The one thing I did notice however is that the file that I recovered has increased in size greatly. Is there anyway to delete that file. I saved a copy of my email. It is outlook.pst - the size is 180 MB - I also removed the Road Runner Medic from my machine. Thank you for all of your assistance. -- Show quoteHide quoteLive life to the fullest and never look back "Vince Averello [MVP-Outlook]" wrote: > Any idea which settings? My husband backed up his pc on an
external drive and did a recovery with 11 discs on his HP because he was having problems. Now when he went back into outlook he only had his incoming mail and none of his sent mail which is very important to him. Do you have any idea how to retrieve this information? He is really upset?
