Q. John Chen
I got a new machine. It is AMD Athlon 64 processor. OS is XP
Professional.

I am trying to install .NET 2.0 framework.

I downloaded NetFx64.exe (ver 2.0.50727.42). Double clicked on it and
it gave me:
Error creating process <C:\ .......\Install.exe>. Reason:C:\WINDOWS
\system32\advpack.dll.

Searched the web and it seems an older version of the framework - but
I got it from the OFFICIAL ms download site.

I also see post say that I shouldn't install x64 unless I have XP
64bit. Is there a special 64 bit version of XP? Or in my case,  my XP
is just like the other 32 bit (don't know how to verify), I guess I
just need to install dotnetfx.exe instead of the x64 version?

Please advise

Thanks

John

Yes, there's a 64 bit version of Windows - unless you're running that, you
can't install the x64 version of the .NET framework.  You need to install
the x86 version instead, or change your OS to 64-bit windows.
