Hello,
I have a friend who called me Saturday with a framework problem.  It
seems that after a Windows Update session that installed FW2.0 he was
looking at his system and thought that he didn't need FW1.1 anymore and did
an uninstall on it.
Unfortunately for him a program his wife uses requires FW 1.1 and now he
can't get it to install.  Using AddRemovePrograms it shows as installed but
sw built for it doesn't work.  I tried sending him a small WindowsForms
program to test with and it fails.  Any suggestions on how to fix this would
be appreciated.  I'm fairly sure that he doesn't want to do a complete wipe
and reinstall though that's what I would do.

Have you tried the redistributable for 1.1 (and the service pack for
it)?

It might well be worth uninstalling 2.0, then reinstalling 1.1, then
installing the service pack for 1.1, then reinstalling 2.0. I don't
know the details of *exactly* what installation does...

Yes,
He tried both of these.  The FW install fails with a 'later version
installed' error and the SP just hangs.  This is only reports by phone
though as he lives about 250 miles from me so I can't just run over and try
to resolve things.  It's always frustrating to try to do things long
distance.
I'll suggest removing 2.0 and then trying to remove 1.1 again.  If he
could get 1.1 to uninstall things would probably work with the install.

Just wanted to check and see how things are going, does that solution work?

If you have any issues or concerns, please let me know. It's my pleasure to
be of assistance.

Thanks!

Gary,
Well, he hasn't solved the problem yet.  I don't think he wants to do
the uninstall I suggested.  They were using the software that used 1.1
(PrintShop I belive) to produce a church bulletin and I managed to get them
a Word template file that worked just as well.  The next time I visit them
I'll look at this.  I'm not sure just what the problem is.  I suspect that
the uninstall of FW1.1 didn't work as AddRemoveSoftware still sees it a
installed but a simple WinForms program using 1.1 crashes immediately.

Thanks,
Ron Allen

Thank for your response, Ron!

I wish you can resolve the problem in your next visit to him, removing the
framework 2.0 at first would be the good approach. :)

Have a nice day!

A problem I had with installing FW 1.1 was solved by logging into the
actual "Administrator" account itself (not just one with administrator
privileges.
