Need to upgrade to Framework 2.0 but continue to develop in FrameI am developing with Framework 1.1 but I have a new application that requires
me to have Framework 2.0 installed on my computer. How can I continue to develop in Framework 1.1 if I have 2.0 installed? >How can I continue to No special action needed, 1.1 will still work after 2.0 is installed.>develop in Framework 1.1 if I have 2.0 installed? Yes, just as Mattias confirmed, there is no special action needed. This is the benifit of .Net Side-by-Side execution. Side-by-side execution is the ability to run multiple versions of an application or component on the same computer. You can have multiple versions of the common language runtime, and multiple versions of applications and components that use a version of the runtime, on the same computer at the same time. So you can use VS.net2003 to develop .Net1.1 targed applications on the machine with VS2005(or .Net Framework2.0) installed without any problem. Actually, both of my 2 working machines have VS.net2003 and VS2005 installed and all the applications work well. Also, new version of .Net keeps good backward compatibility with old version, so even the machine does not have .Net1.1 installed, only .Net2.0, we can still run .Net1.1 applications on the .Net2.0 CLR without much problem. For the detailed information regarding .Net side-by-side and backward compatibility, please refer to the links below: "Side-by-Side Execution " http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/8477k21c(VS.80).aspx "Ensuring .NET Framework 2.0 Compatibility" http://msdn.microsoft.com/msdnmag/issues/06/03/CLRInsideOut/default.aspx Finally, running Asp.net1.1 and 2.0 on the same machine may have some setting restrictions and rules, please refer to the link below: "Running ASP.NET 2.0 applications side-by-side with ASP.NET 1.1 applications " http://www.dotneteer.com/weblog/archive/2006/02/02/2174.aspx Hope this helps!
