Animated GIF's in picture box don't display smoothly

Hi

I have a C# (VS 2k5 Pro) app that uses a wire frame display to show
activity of a piece of equipement. I am hoping to use transparent
animated gif's in picture boxes overlaying the main wire frame outline
of the device to highlight areas of interest to the user, but the
refresh rate of the individual frames in the gif's is very jerky.

Is there any way I can control the display of these gif's or would I be
better to strip them out to individual frames and handle the
transitions myself based on a timer?
