hi

does the query builder not handle sub queries (aka derived tables)?
the derived table gets added to the table view, but i can't figure out
how to set it up properly.

No, I'm afraid that the standard query builder has no such ability. I
suggest you may look at the Active Query Builder
(http://www.activequerybuilder.com/) if you need such functionality.
