I have IIS5 on my pc and it fails there also What am I doing wrong? Thanks Tom Are you http publishing (not FTP) to a server with the FP server extensions

I used the folder option to publish and the FP server extensions are installed on the IIS6 server. Is there any way to check to make sure the FP extensions are installed. I just went into control panal add/remove Microsoft then details on IIS and FP extensions are checked. I even did a IIS reset on the IIS6 server I looked in the folder _vti_cnf and the file default.htm.cnt file exists somewhere I read something about this folder needs ISUR_SERVER1 user with write permissions is that correct? I tried to give ISUR_SERVER1 user write permissions but the write persmission box is greyed out under the Deny column I checked the write box but not sure if the deny is taking over. ANy other ideas? thanks Tom Show quoteHide quote "Tom [Pepper] Willett" <t**@youreadaisyifyoudo.com> wrote in message news:OpxC1bYhJHA.1292@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > Are you http publishing (not FTP) to a server with the FP server > extensions > installed? > -- > Tom [Pepper] Willett > Microsoft MVP - FrontPage > --------------------------- > "Thomas R Grassi Jr" <thomasgra***@hotmail.com> wrote in message > news:%23d$m3RYhJHA.5000@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > : Front Page 2003 SP3 > : IIS6 Windows 2003 R2 Standard DC Server SP2 > : Windows XP Pro SP3 > : > : Just designed a simple default page > : > : Two buttons with a hyper link and > : Hit Counter > : > : This was designed on my Windows XP Pro pc with my FP 2003, Then I > published > : the site on my IIS6 Server > : > : When I bring up the web site the hit counter has a RED X > : > : What can I be missing ? > : > : I have IIS5 on my pc and it fails there also > : > : What am I doing wrong? > : > : Thanks > : > : Tom > : > : > > > To make any component that uses the FrontPage extensions work you either
have to publish using http to a server running the extensions (NOT the folder option) or create the component on the server - opened in FrontPage using a http:// location. Components created on a disc-based web will not work. Components published using FTP or to a disc based (folder option) location will not work, even if the web server is running the extensions. I created this web site in IIS6 i did not use WSS Central Adminstration Should I delete the site from IIS6 then create it via WSS CA? This web site is not for Sharepoint it is being developed for external user access to my home web site. Do we need to create all web sites now via WSS CA? Just tried creating the site in WSS CA Still does not work I see the FPSE files now under the site I can not connect to the site Why do we need to do this using Sharepoint? Sharepoint is not an IIS web site manager program IIS6 needs to have the ability to add FPSE to any web site no matter how it is created. If I do a New Web site in IIS6 why can I not get FPSE to work What do I do now Tom Show quoteHide quote "Ronx" <ronx***@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:enn5SNqhJHA.5244@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... > Have you extended the website? On the server I am using port 80 for my web site Well I deleted it from sharepoint and recreated it back in IIS6 I am unclear on where to extend the site to get FPSE installed The Sharepoint Central Admin web page does not list any web site that is not under the control of WSS I just went into WSS CA extend a web site page in the drop down box I saw my TESTSITE but it wants me to extend and existing Application I have WSS working fine now and I do not want to extend my WSS site which happens to be on port 81 The TESTSITE is a standalone site nothing to do with WSS and IIS6 should be able to handle the FSPE extensions. What if I did not have sharepoint installed FSPE extension would not work either? I am now more confused than ever. It is looking like Frontpage is not designed to publish to a url. The option in FP is not working at all now matter what environment. The only method that works is file transfer. But then Hit Counters will not work when you publish that way. Need help thanks Tom Does Microsoft still support FP? I got it yahoo What a bone head I am on this one. You and every one else kept telling me use Sharepoint admin and dumb me was always using sharepoint central administration. Then I did a check in admin tools and saw sharepoint admin and to my amazement there it was my web site ready to be extended. I ran the extension process but it failed. The site I created was under the folder of wwwroot. It did not like that so I had to create my testsite under the root of inetpub The fpse 2002 files all appeared and my site works even the hit counter is working now wow. Just have one question left now How do I publish my files into the root of the new folder I created on my server. Reason I ask is becasue when I published from my pc it created the folder that I had on my pc on the server. now the users would have to type www.testsite.com/testsite would rather have www.testsite.com Thanks for all your help Any ideas on that? Thanks Tom Now off to get my workstation to work for SPFE 2002 and I will be a happy camper Show quoteHide quote "Ronx" <ronx***@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:%23lvSJQwhJHA.5244@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... > The Sharepoint Administrator is for administrating the FP 2002 > extensions - not Sharepoint. Make a new folder (use Windows Explorer) In the IIS MMC expand the tree on the left, right click on websites folder and choose New website In the property sheets point the website to the new folder, and either set host headers or a new IP address to point to the site. Any new IP address will have to be set up in Networking on the server, and DNS entries made for it as well. This is a post for the server groups and forums. Or read all the help in the IIS MMC. -- Show quoteHide quoteRon Symonds - Microsoft MVP (Expression) Reply only to group - emails will be deleted unread. http://www.rxs-enterprises.org/fp "Thomas R Grassi Jr" <thomasgra***@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:OIzD6fxhJHA.760@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... > Ronx > > I got it yahoo > > What a bone head I am on this one.
